General Dentistry

A filling is necessary when a decay has destroyed a part of the tooth. The dentist needs to remove the decay and then, place a material to recreate the morphology of the missing tooth structure.
We consider that composite resin (white fillings) is the filling material of choice for several reasons. For example, composite fillings preserve the natural tooth structure and are more esthetic than amalgam fillings.

Root Canal Treatment

Sometimes, bacterias (for example from a decay) can penetrate the pulp of the teeth. In this case, the pulp cannot repair itself and root canal therapy is required to eliminate the diseased pulp and save the tooth.
This injured pulp is removed and the root canal system is thoroughly cleaned and sealed. This therapy usually involves local anesthesia and may be completed in one or more visits depending on the treatment required. Then, your dentist will cap the tooth with a restoration, such as a dental crown, to return the tooth to its original shape and structure.

Periodontal Treatment

The main cause of tooth loss in adults is periodontal disease. Gum disease is caused by bacterias and other factors (tobacco use, clenching teeth, genetics, some medications.)
Periodontal disease can produce red and bleeding gums, bad breath, tooth sensitivity, loose teeth, abscessed teeth…

Patients with periodontal disease may require a special kind of cleaning called scaling and root planing. The procedure begins with administration of a local anesthetic to reduce any discomfort. Then, a small instrument called a “scaler,” or an ultrasonic cleaner, is used to remove plaque and tartar below the gumline.
The root surfaces on the tooth are then planed and smoothed. If effective, scaling and root planing helps the gums reattach themselves to the tooth structure. Additional measures may be needed if the periodontal pockets persist after scaling and root planing.
