Fixed Dental Bridges
A dental bridge does exactly what the name implies: it “bridges” the area (gap) left behind when a tooth is missing. Each end of the bridge has a built-in crown that is anchored on top of the neighboring teeth, allowing a porcelain pontic crown to suspend between them.
In most cases, we use traditional crowns to replace up to one or two teeth at a time. It’s important that the support teeth be healthy, otherwise a dental implant might be recommended instead. A bridge can also be supported by implants to replace several more teeth at one time.
Caring for Your Bridge
You will need to use special flossing tools or a water flosser to clean under your bridge daily. Otherwise, food and bacteria can compromise the supporting teeth. This could cause them to fail, and your bridge to fall out. With good oral hygiene and regularly scheduled checkups, your bridge ought to last for several years.
Will it Blend in With My Smile?
Yes! Your new bridge can be made of durable Zirconia or all porcelain materials that blend in with your surrounding teeth. That way you can talk or laugh in front of other people without them realizing you’ve had dental work. Our dentists and lab technicians design your new restoration to mimic the natural shape, coloration, and surface texture of your natural teeth.
When Should I Get a Bridge?
If you have missing teeth, you want to replace them as soon as possible. Otherwise, the teeth on either side will tip out of place and cause neighboring teeth to shift as well. Instead of needing a bridge, you may find yourself requiring orthodontic therapy as the first phase of treatment.

Unlike bulky temporary dental crowns, a custom made crown can last for years and help you boost your self-confidence. The type of crown that you choose will often depend on the location of the tooth in your mouth — such as one in the back, or one at the front.
Do I Need a Crown?
Your new crown is a cover that protects the entire portion of your tooth above the gumline. They’re recommended in lieu of fillings, when the tooth is badly decayed, broken, or simply cannot be “patched” with a smaller restoration.
Crowns are recommended when teeth have:
Had a root canal or post and core
Large areas of decay
Significant cracks or chipping
Severe cosmetic concerns that cannot be addressed with a veneer
Been replaced with a single tooth implant
Fortunately, advanced materials allow us to create aesthetically pleasing crowns (also called “caps”) without sacrificing quality or integrity. Zirconia and porcelain crowns eliminate the need for metal, which can cause a grey line along the gumlines when you smile. The new crown is matched to resemble the color of adjacent teeth, allowing it to easily blend in.
In certain cases, a gold crown may be recommended due to excessive biting forces. Typically, gold crowns are only used on upper back teeth that are not visible when you smile.
Your Treatment Experience
Having a dental crown made is usually a two part procedure. At your first appointment, we will prep your tooth and take an impression. A model of your tooth is sent to the lab, where your custom crown is made. About two weeks later, your temporary crown is removed and the permanent crown is cemented into place.
With proper care, your new restoration can last for several years to come!

Dentures and partials are an option for patients with moderate tooth loss. If you want a full set of teeth, talk to our team about how traditional dentures may work for you. Both of these prosthetics are customized and sent to a local, trusted lab for fabrication, so they fit pleasantly every time you wear them.
